The village is set back on the left bank of the river with 1075 hectres at 300 metres above sea level for 226 inhabitants. 12 kilometres from the town of Sombernon, Barbirey-sur-Ouche is in the centre of the Ouche valley and surrounded by hills and forests.

To see and do...

On of the most important heritages of the village is the 18th century castle, which today hosts one of the largest collections of wild flowers in France (open to the public). There are stone houses from the 18th and 19th century and the church of saint Martin. The hamlet of Jaugey has a magnificent 19th century wash house. In the surrounding country side the are pedestiren walks following celtic paths in the woodlands of Veluze and the cave of "La Roche-Chevre" (the stone goat).
