Gissey-sur-Ouche

Description

A calm and picturesque village on 1448 hectres at 300 metres above sea-level is in the heart the valley. Located at a dozen kilometres from Sombernon. The canal and river pass through the center and dividing the village into two parts.

To see and do...

The caves of "La Garenne" and an impressive wash house feed by the spring water coming down from the hills. The hills tightly surround the the village and there are many paths going from the village into the forest. Also visit the old mill of banet and a Roman Church.

The impressive house beside the canal turning place used to be a hotel. When the train was operational in the valley, Gissey was a well known holiday destination for the Dijon bourgeoisie.

The village is a favorite destination for barges and boats, there are good morrings for boats of all sizes.

Traces of the Palaeolithic age in the caves of "La Garenne".
